If you needed a new way to eat eggs and toast I have you covered here. The weekend is generally the only time I have to think up creative breakfast ideas seeing as I commute an hour to and from work during the week. This one isn’t quite revolutionary, but it is one that I only recently discovered and is slowly becoming a weekend morning breakfast staple. It’s pretty much as simple as cooking regular eggs and toast but is just slightly more interesting.
When I moved out, I definitely missed having my dehydrator. I used to make dried apples and dried bananas almost weekly! Not only did I use my dehydrator to dry whole fruit, but it was also great for fruit leather! Since I have no storage space for more appliances, I had to find another way to make the banana chips I love to snack on! Luckily, there is a way!! And I’m about to show you!
If it were healthier for me I would probably eat pasta every day of my life. It is definitely one of my all time favorite foods that I will never get sick of. It helps that it is really easy to make and there are so many varieties and sauces to go with it. There are some that I have yet to try that I have plans for and these toasted raviolis are something I’ve been meaning to try out for a while. They are SO super easy and delicious, which makes them a great appetizer for your next gathering. Many restaurants have a deep fried version but in a slight attempt to be healthy I went with baked and was ecstatic when they came out just as crunchy.
It’s strawberry season and I couldn’t be happier about it! The fresh, local strawberries around here right now are out of this world good. Avocado and strawberries may sound like a very strange combination but trust me when I say that if you love the two individually then you will absolutely love them together. I’ve been seeing a few recipes for strawberry guacamole around lately which is what got me intrigued. I have to say, this will become a go to snack of mine even when strawberries are out of season. Not only is it healthy but also vegan-friendly and great for many purposes (snack, appetizer etc).
When I was little, my dad would always make hash browns with our Saturday breakfasts (with eggs of course). I hated hash browns. Weird right? Especially since I love potatoes in pretty much every shape and form. Needless to say I have grown to enjoy them, but prefer when they are made fresh, and especially when they are little patties made from shredded potato. These are much healthier than the traditional hash browns, and I think would pair perfectly with some good old fried eggs and toast!
Okay, so I’m not entirely sure why I am apparently obsessed with piña colada flavors lately but apparently I am because this is the second recipe I’ve posted within a week that has that theme. I mean I like the flavors but I don’t want you to think all I do is sit around thinking about piña colada’s all the time because that might seem a bit strange. I will say this though, I do love coconut milk and I strive to use it whenever possible. If you go back and look at my recipes you will find that quite a few contain it. There’s just endless things you can make and I intend on making every single one apparently. I made these popsicles alcohol-free and now I’m not sure why because I could really go for a boozy one. You can definitely add rum if desired, in fact I would encourage it!
Lately I have been slightly obsessed with scones. There is something about that light and flakey texture that I can’t seem to get enough of! Especially when my scones are loaded with cheese!! I mean don’t get me wrong I do love a good sweet scone every now and then, but these savory and slightly spicy scones are da bomb!! Not to mention cheese makes everything taste better… It also helps that the people I’m living with love cheese too, and ensures I don’t eat all of the scones to myself.
Happy Cinco De Mayo everyone! While this is a holiday that isn’t really celebrated that extensively in Canada, we have a variety of Mexican recipes that we wanted to share for this celebration. I’ve actually been in the States for a few Cinco De Mayo’s and I know that in certain States especially it is a big party. Also, who doesn’t love Margaritas, tacos and nachos right? We definitely do and I’m sure many of you reading this love these recipes just as much. It’s time for a Mexican fiesta people!
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE! Can you tell I’m a bit excited about that? After two short weeks I have to admit this one seems to have dragged on a bit and I am pretty ecstatic that it’s the weekend and I get to sleep in / do whatever the heck I want. If you haven’t noticed yet, I (Sonia) am a big fan of decadent food. That being said I am starting the Wild Rose Detox next week as I’ve been on a bit of an indulgence spree lately (this post being one of those indulgences). Not that I’m saying it’s bad to treat yourself once in a while, but there should be a limit to it. I’m hoping this detox, which I have done before and felt amazing after, will kick start me back on the healthy train. I personally like it because you can still eat a limited diet. I don’t know how I really feel about cleanses that are super restricted and only allow you to eat/drink one particular thing. For now, however, I’m going to enjoy deliciousness such as this apple bacon grilled cheese.
Sometimes it feels like days are going by so slowly and sometimes you wake up feeling like yesterday was the first day of the year and it’s actually May. That happened to me this morning. I am so close to have been living and working in Vancouver for a year and yet I still feel like a newbie. We’re going through some sort of heat wave here at the moment (24 degrees in April constitutes a heat wave in West Coast Canada) and I am LOVING it. If today is a predictor for the rest of May it is sure to be a beautiful spring. Of course as any Vancouverite knows, it could be raining in 5 minutes however I have a feeling we could be in for a lovely spring/summer. While the weather wasn’t as great in April it was still an amazing month over here at Everybody Loves Pretty. We continue to be exceedingly grateful for all the support and comment/like/follow love we’re getting over here. So AGAIN (you’ll hear it a lot) thank you!
