There is this little Mexican taco place right next to my apartment that is SOOO good. If you ever go to Vancouver, you must check out La Taqueria! Considering I could probably go there every night and not get tired of the deliciousness, I decided I must begin making them myself so I don’t break the bank. I’m actually not one to eat out because I love experimenting in the kitchen, but this taco place is just so good! So, this is my version of pork Carnitas. And what better way to make pork than in the crock pot! These tacos are super easy to make, which makes them even more enjoyable to eat!
Happy Cinco De Mayo everyone! While this is a holiday that isn’t really celebrated that extensively in Canada, we have a variety of Mexican recipes that we wanted to share for this celebration. I’ve actually been in the States for a few Cinco De Mayo’s and I know that in certain States especially it is a big party. Also, who doesn’t love Margaritas, tacos and nachos right? We definitely do and I’m sure many of you reading this love these recipes just as much. It’s time for a Mexican fiesta people!
We are getting into strawberry season!! Woooohooooo so many strawberry things that I want to make!!! Hey did you ever get a chance to check out my Strawberry Banana Loaf? If not you totally should, it’s a good one! Anyways as you know I really like tequila, and I love making new kinda of margaritas! And now that strawberries are so plentiful and relatively inexpensive, I knew it was time to try something a little bit different and new! Tadaaaa the strawberry margarita was born! Perfect for Cinco de Mayo!
One of my favorite places to shop is Homesense. You can always find the coolest most unique kitchenware there, including cookbooks. In Vancouver, we are extremely close to a Homesense/Winners and I love going at least once per week to browse through all the different items that are constantly going through their store.
This little Mexican cookbook is one of the many awesome snags my mom and I picked up from there. “Best Ever Mexican” it really does live up to that name. My mom always likes to do themed dinner party nights and I must say, the Mexican ones are often some of my favorites! These cookies are SO delicious, and very similar to shortbread cookies. I get super excited whenever they are out of the oven.
Well I’m (Sonia) sadly back from my vacation. After a week of sun and heat in the Dominican, I was a little dissapointed to come back to raincouver. I can’t complain too much though, we met many Canadians who were headed back to snow storms and temps lower than -20. Our mild weather hardly seems like anything to be upset about when compared to those extremes. Adam and I cozied up inside catching up on TV shows and lazing about and it was the perfect rainy day. To top it off, I tried making spicy (Mexican) hot chocolate for the first time and it was a rich and delicious treat on a dreary day.
Although Christmas is over it is still the holiday season and I’m sure alot of you have quite a bit of entertaining still left to do! Guacamole is such an easy snack/appetizer that takes no time at all to make and is a huge crowd pleaser. The great thing about it is that it can be dressed up in many different ways depending on how adventurous you’re feeling. As a general rule I like to keep it simple because I don’t want to mask the taste of the avocados.
