I absolutely love granola. I mean store-bought isn’t really all that great, but when you find a good homemade granola recipe, it’s just like Christmas!! Granola is one of those things that can be made on the weekend and then eaten throughout the week for a quick, nutritious and protein-packed breakfast before work! As long as your granola is sealed tight, it will last for up to a week and a half! (Not that you will be able to resist eating it all before it’s stale – especially if you are a granola lover like myself.) It also makes a perfect camping breakfast, and can be made ahead of time and taken on your next camping trip!
Today is an extremely important and special day…. It’s my 23rd birthday!! And what better way to celebrate my birthday than to bake myself a cake! And even better, a drunken cherry chocolate cake! This was the best birthday preset I have ever given myself. It is truly delicious and perfect for summer. I would highly recommend it for any future birthdays you are planning on having. I think it would also be perfect for next year’s Canada Day celebration, as it is all red and white.

The weekend is generally the only time I have to think up creative breakfast ideas seeing as I commute an hour to and from work during the week. This one isn’t quite revolutionary, but it is one that I only recently discovered and is slowly becoming a weekend morning breakfast staple. It’s pretty much as simple as cooking regular eggs and toast but is just slightly more interesting.
How often have I said I (Sonia) am not a baker? Probably around a million times. However, my mindset is slowly changing ever since I received a beautiful KitchenAid mixer from Adam for our seventh dating anniversary. Seriously, I am absolutely in love with it and it is giving me the urge to bake. Combine that with a coworker/friend’s birthday last week and you have these amazingly moist red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting adapted from Divas Can Cook.
I love finding a good vegetarian recipe. Meatless Mondays are becoming a regular occurrence in this house hold. I find that they are even better when they contain pasta. I found these little tri coloured rotinis and thought they were super fun! Who doesn’t like coloured pasta that’s spiral design! This makes both a great hot and cold pasta as well, so you can make it ahead of time and store it in the fridge!
Watermelon screams summer to me. Although watermelon is mostly water (hence the name), it is extremely refreshing and perfect on a hot day! I must admit I have been in a bit of a rut in terms of thinking up things that are super easy to make in a pinch if you have unexpected guests. Luckily, one of my friends suggested this salad that she loves that only contains watermelon, mint and feta! After scouring pinterest for a few minutes, I found photos for a great easy and delicious appy.
Ok so I know we just had the June roundup yesterday, but with today being Canada Day and 4th of July on Friday, it seemed necessary to do another one based on recipes that are perfect for summer festivities. Summer is definitely my favourite time of year, I have always dreamed about living in a place that gets sun and warmth all year round. Luckily, Vancouver has surprisingly somewhat met this dream of mine this year. Maybe not so warm, but our weather has been great. Exactly one year ago today I moved into a new apartment in a new city and just over a year ago I started a new job. With all the changes that happened, I felt like I really didn’t get to enjoy summer 2013 as much as I could have. So here is to making the most of the summer this year with some great recipes at your fingertips!
